By accessing or using Songmatter (songmatter.com), you agree to be bound by these Terms & Conditions. If you do not agree, do not use the service. Songmatter is operated by Clifford Press LLC. These terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you and Songmatter.
Songmatter is a lyric development companion that grades songwriter lyrics using AI-powered critic personas. Songmatter does not write lyrics for you. It provides feedback, scores, and marginal notes on lyrics you submit. The service uses Anthropic's Claude AI models to generate feedback. All feedback is AI-generated and should be treated as a creative development tool, not as professional advice.
You must create an account using a valid email address to access Songmatter. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials. You must be at least 13 years of age to use the service. You agree to provide accurate information and to update it as necessary. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.
You retain full ownership of all lyrics and creative content you submit to Songmatter. We do not claim any ownership, copyright, or intellectual property rights over your lyrics. By submitting lyrics, you grant Songmatter a limited, non-exclusive license to process your content solely for the purpose of providing the grading service. This license terminates when you delete your content or your account.
Songmatter will never sell, publish, distribute, or use your lyrics for any purpose other than delivering the service to you. Your songs are yours. Period.
All grades, scores, marginal notes, and critic feedback provided by Songmatter are generated by artificial intelligence (Anthropic's Claude models). This feedback represents AI-generated creative criticism and is not a substitute for professional music industry advice, legal counsel, or human editorial review. Songmatter makes no guarantees about the accuracy, completeness, or commercial applicability of any feedback. Critic personas (Elias, Jules, Marcus, and others) are fictional characters. Their opinions are generated outputs, not endorsements or professional assessments.
Songmatter offers free and paid subscription tiers:
Paid subscriptions are billed monthly through Stripe. You may cancel at any time. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period. Refunds are not provided for partial billing periods. We reserve the right to change pricing with 30 days' notice. Continued use after a price change constitutes acceptance.
You agree not to: submit content that infringes on the intellectual property rights of others; use the service for any unlawful purpose; attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract the AI models or prompts used by the service; use automated tools to scrape or bulk-access the service; share account credentials with others; or misrepresent AI-generated feedback as human-authored reviews or endorsements.
Songmatter is provided “as is” without warranties of any kind, express or implied. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Songmatter and Clifford Press LLC shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the service, including but not limited to loss of profits, data, or creative opportunities. Our total liability shall not exceed the amount you paid for the service in the 12 months preceding the claim.
We may suspend or terminate your access to Songmatter at any time, with or without cause, upon reasonable notice. You may terminate your account at any time by contacting us. Upon termination, your right to use the service ceases immediately. We will make reasonable efforts to allow you to export your data before deletion.
We may update these Terms & Conditions from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via email or through the service. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
These terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the United States. Any disputes arising under these terms shall be resolved through binding arbitration.
