Show, Don't Teach
The worst thing a lyric can do is explain itself. The moment you tell the listener what to feel, you have lost them. "I am so sad" is not a lyric — it is a diary entry. "The kitchen light was on but no one was home" — that is a lyric. It shows the sadness without naming it.
