Emotional Truth vs. Clever Writing
There is a disease in songwriting, and it is cleverness. Cleverness is the enemy of truth. A clever line makes the writer look smart. A true line makes the listener feel understood. These are not the same thing, and the distance between them is the distance between craft and art.
